Among the biggest ampitheatre's in western Canada, the Heritage Ampitheatre is located here. Likewise within the city of Edmonton, is the man-made waterfall known as the Great Divide Waterfall, which is seven times higher compared to Niagara Falls. John Janzen Nature Centre supports awareness and understanding of nature with hands-on classes and programs. Muttart Conservatory is home to thousands of species of domestic and exotic plants. Valley Zoo is home to over three hundred exotic animals of more than one hundred various species.
The city is the most essential economic centre for central and northern Alberta. It is also a major centre for the oil and gas trade. The city has been called the "Oil Capital of Canada" as it has traditionally been a hub for Albertan petrochemical industries. Moreover, its economy is derived from the technology sector, like for example Stantec Inc., General Electric, Matrikon, BioWare, Intuit Canada, Canadian Western Bank, IBM and Telus. Edmonton is also considered Canada's premier research and education hub.
