 Sweeper Parts Strathmore - The town of Strathmore is situated within southern Alberta along the Trans-Canada Highway. It is situated within Wheatlan County, around 25 miles or 40 kilometres east of the city of Calgary.
During 1883, the town was established as a hamlet for the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) lines that were being built. The name Strathmore comes from the Earl of Strathmore, Claude Bowes-Lyon, who was amongst the towns benefactors. A track laying record was made between the town of Strathmore and Cheadle when the railroad was built. Within one hour, one mile (1.6 km) of steel was laid and the rails were laid to Cheadle, 9 miles (14 km) for a record. Efforts by the Canadian government to develop western Canada led to increases in Strathmore's population and its importance as a rail supply stop.
Nowadays, the town of Strathmore is an essential agricultural community. Gas and oil exploration is likewise a growing interest in the area. It is the headquarters of the Golden Hills School Division. Many travel every day from the town of Strathmore to Calgary. Over the last three years the town of Strathmore has seen a main commercial development.
The Town of Strathmore has an estimated population of 12,139 residents, based on the latest 2010 municipal census. This represents an increase of 2.5% more than the 2009 municipal census population of 11,838. At its existing population, the town of Strathmore is amongst the biggest towns in the province and is eligible for city status. Based on the Municipal Government Act of Alberta, a town is eligible for city status once it reaches 10,000 inhabitants.
The town of Strathmore has hosted an annual fair and "Heritage Days" Rodeo since 1966, on the long weekend during August. The Heritage Days Rodeo turned professional during the year 1985, becoming a Canadian Professional Rodeo Association sanctioned event. Together with hosting Pro Rodeo that weekend, the year 1988 saw the addition of the World Professional Chuckwagon Association Finals come to our grounds.
The 1990's focused on a change of image to provide a family weekend by incorporating local entertainment stage, children's entertainment, livestock show, craft/bench show, machinery show, outdoor family entertainment show ring, trade show, parade, midway and fireworks. The hosting of these events annually each August long weekend created a major tourist spot to the Town of Strathmore and nearby areas as indicated by its increasing attendance.
